*Below I have listed treatments,and medications and the dosages at which I use them. All information about medications and/or treatments is based on personal experience or is obtained from others who have talked with a licensed veterinarian on treatment and/or medications. And now with that put away onto to useful information. ;)ANTIBIOTICS:
Excenel RTU - useful for almost any infection. I have used for UTI, respiratory, mastitis. DOSAGE: 1cc per 50-100lbs once a day for 5 days. Must be given SQ or IM
Naxcel - Same ingredient as Excenel RTU but a different carrier. Very short shelf life. Once reconstituted the whole bottle needs to be used at one. It will keep for 5-7 days in the fridge once reconstituted OR about a year if frozen. DOSAGE: 1cc per 50-100lbs once a day for 5 days. Can be given IV, IM or SQ
Pen G - used for infections DOSAGE: 1cc per 10-20 lbs once a day for 5-7 days. CANNOT be given IV. Must be given SQ or IM
Oxytetracycline - Also known as LA-200, Biomycin, Agrimycin. Good for respiratory infections as well as hoof rot, pink eye, metritis and mastitis. DOSAGE: 1cc per 20lbs once a day for 5 days for respiratory infection. I also use it as a preventative after I need to assist after kidding at 1cc per 20lbs every other day for a total of 2-3 doses. Can be given IV, IM or SQ. **STINGS VERY BAD**
NuFlor - Good respiratory antibiotic. DOSAGE: One time dosage of 1cc per 16 lbs SQ. Or 1cc per 33lbs once and then again on the third day for a two time dose SQ. *STINGS VERY BAD*
Nuflor Gold - Good respiratory antibiotic. Kills Mycoplasma bacteria. DOSAGE: .3cc per 10 Lbs SQ
Tylosin-200 -Kills mycoplasma bacteria DOSAGE: 1cc per 20lbs o 1-2 times a day for 5 days.
Micotil - DEADLY to goats. Do not use.
Intramammary Antibiotics:
Spectramast - Good for the "chunky" mastitis. DOSAGE: One whole tube per udder half twice a day till improvement in milk and udder texture. Make sure to squirt out the air in the top first.
HetacinK - Good for gangrene mastitis. DOSAGE: One whole tube per udder half twice a day till improvement in milk and udder texture.
ToDay - For mastitis. DOSAGE: One whole tube per udder half twice a day till improvement in milk and udder texture.
Tomorrow - For Mastitis in a dry goat. DOSAGE: One whole tube per udder half once.
Dewormers:
Ivomec Injectable - Safe for pregnant goats. DOSAGE: 1cc per 40lbs SQ ONLY.*STINGS*
Ivomec Plus Injectable - Kills Liver flukes. I personally do not use in pregnant goats. DOSAGE: 1cc per 40lbs SQ ONLY. *STINGS*
Valbazen - Kills tapeworms and liverflukes. DOSAGE: 1cc per 15 lbs Orally. DO NOT GIVE TO PREGNANT DOES!!
Safeguard - Double the dosage on the bottle for the liquid one labeled for GOATS.
Quest PLUS Horse dewormer - Very very strong dewormer. Kills just about everything including tapes. DOSAGE: .1cc per 10lbs orally
Coccidia Treatment:
Sulmet drinking water solution 12.5% - DOSAGE: 1cc per 5 lbs orally the first day and then 1cc per 10 lbs the next 6 days.
Albon - DOSAGE: 1cc per 5 lbs orally the first day and then 1cc per 10 lbs the next 6 days.
Dimethox 12.5% - DOSAGE: 1cc per 5 lbs orally the first day and then 1cc per 10 lbs the next 6 days.
SMZ-TMP TABS 800/160 - DOSAGE: 1cc per 10 lbs orally the first day and then 1cc per 20 lbs the next 5 days.
Corrid - I never use this since it can/will cause polio.
Baycox - Not available for sale in the USA. DOSAGE: 3cc per 15 lbs ONCE orally
Vitamins and Minerals:
BoSe - Injectable Vitamin E and Selenium. DOSAGE: 1cc per 40lbs SQ or IM once to twice a year. (before kidding and before breeding season.) NEVER USE MuSe since the level of selenium are much high and can cause death.
Copper - I use Copasure boluses DOSAGE: 1cc per 50-60 lbs once to twice a year orally.
Pain Killers/ Anti-inflammatory:
Banamine - Should only be given for a couple days IF needed. Can cause ulcers and liver damage if used long term. DOSAGE 1cc per 100lbs IV, IM or SQ.
Adult Aspirin - DOSAGE: One aspirin per 10lbs orally
Miscellaneous:
Epinephrine: Should ALWAYS have on hand when giving injectable medications in case of anaphylactic reaction DOSAGE: 1cc per 100 lbs IM only
Spectogaurd - Red liquid medication labeled for piglets but works awesome for goats with bacterial scours. DOSAGE: On bottle.
Lutalyse - Use to bring a doe into heat or abort fetus at any stage of pregnancy. Use gloves when handling and wash hands after useing. DOSAGE: 2cc to abort fetus or induce labor 1cc to bring a doe into heat.
Dexamethasone - This is a steriod. It is used to reduce inflamation, induce labor or reduce swelling after a anaphylactic reaction. DOSAGE: After reaction to medication 1cc per 20 lbs IV., IM, SQ. To induce labor 10 - 12cc IV, IM, SQ.
Milk of Magnesia - Used for toxic reactions and rumen inbalence. DOSAGE: 15cc per 60 Lbs orally
Activated Charcoal - Should always have this around in case of poisoning. DOSAGE: One bottle or tube but you can't give too much. In case of emergency Charcoal from a natural fire or fish tank charcoal can be used.
Mineral Oil - Used for Bloat and rumen upset/impaction. Best if given via Stomach tube since it has no taste so the goat wont swallow right and it will get in their lungs. DOSAGE: 10-20cc via stomach tube.
Oxytocin - used in small dose for milk let down. Also used when the placenta is retained. DOSAGE: For retained Placenta when cervix is OPEN or for hemorrhage after kidding 1-1.5cc
Propylene Glycol - Used for ketosis caused by pregnancy toxemia or anorexia DOSAGE: 60cc orally once a day or 30cc orally twice a day. Goats HATE the taste if it so I usually substitute Karo syrup.
